Padlet Presentations - 613

Students love the creative "bulletin board" approach to it, and the options to customize backgrounds.
I had to convince my usually reluctant students to LEAVE the class and go to lunch, they were so engaged.

Stop Using Your Personal Time to Grade Spelling Tests!! - 203
Are you tired of all the time it takes to grade those weekly spelling tests? With a little time upfront typing the words into an app, you can give your spelling test digitally and never grade another test. SmArTy-K12 by SMARTpath allows you to input individual or group lists, send a code to your students, and then proceed as usual with your students typing the words into a form. Once they tap submit, you are ready to check your reports and then move on with your personal life a little sooner. This app is worth the $9.99. Two lucky attendees will walk away from this session with a free copy of the time-saving app.  Teachers must have an iPad, but students can use any device with internet access to take the tests.

You Wrote a Research Paper...so What? - 513
My research paper units always frustrate me. My students spend two weeks or more working on one assignment, and it is such a letdown when they're done. They're cranky, I'm cranky...yes they earn a grade, but what can they do to share what they have learned? How can the project be more useful and more meaningful? I tried two different presentation methods this year using technology to take the research beyond the classroom. My freshmen researched links between bullying and suicide, then used Animoto to create public service announcements incorporating their research to raise awareness about the issue. My sophomores researched different humanitarians, so I had each of them create a 8.5" x 11" poster for the humanitarian, complete with a QR code that linked to the student's explanation of the humanitarian's work. We displayed the posters in the media center, where anyone could use the QR code to learn about the humanitarians.

It is a secure service that allows teachers to send free reminders via text or e-mail.  Setting it up takes only a few minutes.  Both students and parents can sign up.  It also includes apps for your Apple or Droid device.  Don't like mobile?  You can schedule messages to be sent out at any time in the future via the website.  Setting up your account will only take a few minutes and by the end of the session you will be "remind101ing" away.

Once published, the owner can track the analytics to see how wide the readership becomes along with tracking the number of people who read their creation. Smore provides the author with an internet link that can be Tweeted, posted to Facebook, and sent out with email, Remind 101, or any other communication method you can think of. If teachers are interested in a quick way to grasp the attention of parents and students, would like to get their information widely distributed, and accomplish this quickly, Smore.com is one way to accomplish that. And….if you don’t mind students seeing “kick ass analytics,” it can be used by students over 13.
